She told him her secret
And made him promise not to tell anyone
And then they slid down the slide
And tumbled in the sandbox
And she said
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Because to her, growing up was something special.
And she kicked the sand between her feet
And he told her
That he wants to be a fireman
And save lives.

She told him her secret
Closely in his ear, so she could feel him
And he promised he won't tell anyone
(Even though he did)
And he slid across her body
And they tumbled into a mess of love
And she said
"What job are you looking for now?"
Because to her, money was important.
And she kicked away her original intent of dumping him
And he told her
That he wants to be a waiter
And get chicks.

She told him her secret
But he couldn't hear her
Because he lost his hearing-aid
And he didn't promise anything
And they remembered the playground
And they remembered the sandbox
And she said
"When will you retire?"
Because to her, rest was important.
And she tried to smile
And he told her
That he needs to retire soon
Because he needs to save himself.

She told the grave her secret
And made the wind promise not to tell anyone
And the tears slid down her face
And she remembered
(But it was hard to remember)
How he wanted to be a fireman,
And how he wanted to save lives,
And how
he never did
